is a group of female comedians who perform
together in comedy shows. We range in age from 21 – 63. We
are all sizes and shapes and races. Our comic taste ranges from
squeaky clean to — well…not your grandmother’s
comedy (unless she’s a lap dancer at Déjà Vu).
The Ha Ha Sisterhood Shows started in 2003 and
are produced by JeanAnn O’Brien. The Sisterhood performs regularly
at the Seattle Comedy
Underground and occasionally at other venues. It is a showcase
for rising stars and comic veterans.
The Sisterhood's major purpose is to promote and
support female comedians and provide quality entertainment. It is
expected that the newer comics will benefit from getting to work
with established local and visiting comedians and that through some
of the unique marketing efforts new audiences will come out to enjoy
“live” standup comedy.
It is also held as a value that the women who
perform with the Ha Ha Shows will support each other and share information
and resources as appropriate…it has been a “Good Old
Girl” comedy network since its beginning.
Many of the performers at these shows have the
opportunity to have more stage time than is commonly afforded elsewhere.
Many can be paid for their participation.
These are structured professional shows, and comedians will be expected
to act accordingly. These shows are for serious comedians (an oxymoron?).
Although not everyone has her sights set on a comedy career, it
is expected that she will be performing at open mics and other shows
as available.
Bookers, agents and show producers are often at the Ha Ha Shows
scouting for talent. JeanAnn O’Brien also gets calls from
people looking for female comedians. There are no fees involved
in referring a Sister to another show nor do the comedians have
any obligation to continue to be in the Ha Ha Shows.
There are no fees or dues or other obligations of any kind to be
a Ha Ha Sister. The only expectation is that each woman does her
best and works at her comedy craft and supports the shows. Hopefully,
the result is pride, fun and enough money to at least pay for gas
or bus fare.
